Milnes Engineering & Construction recently completed construction of a new state-of-the-art showroom and office space for Sherwood Chevrolet in the heart of downtown Tunkhannock. We are very proud to unveil this local project.
The 27,000 square-foot facility features a spacious showroom encased entirely in floor-to-ceiling glass walls, modern office spaces equipped with the latest data and communications technologies and several service bays. The structure, a combination of pre-engineered metal, small areas of structural steel and ground-faced masonry, had to conform to strict GM prototype standards.
Prior to the construction phase, Milnes also performed significant survey and civil design services for this project, according to Milnes Engineering Project Manager Michael P. Goodwin, P.E. Milnes took concept drawings prepared for the project and developed a completely designed project layout. The site was somewhat challenging due to the size of the building footprint and concerns with grading relating to potential flooding in this area. The layout required local zoning and land development design and approvals, as well as stormwater and erosion and sediment pollution control design and permitting, PennDOT Highway Occupancy design and permitting, local water and sewer connection design and permitting, Goodwin said.
Milnes also worked together in-house to provide construction survey layout, as-built survey and to make adjustments to the site design as construction progressed, and was able to provide the client with an optimized project to fit their needs.
Milnes also provided the Sherwood showroom with one of the area’s only service bays capable of servicing vehicles used in the extraction and transport of compressed natural gas (CNG). All of the service lanes were equipped with in-slab heat that makes use of a waste oil boiler for efficient heating of the service bays during winter months.
